Question 1

What does a reverse osmosis system actually do?

Accepted Answer

It uses water pressure to push water through a semipermeable membrane. The purified water (permeate) is kept and the concentrate is discharged. RO significantly reduces dissolved salts and many dissolved contaminants. How well it performs depends on your feed water, pressure, temperature, the membrane and how well the system is maintained.

Question 2

Which size do I need?

Accepted Answer

Capacity is rated in gallons per day (GPD). The 75 GPD domestic system covers a household's drinking and cooking water. Commercial sizes (800 to 2,000 GPD) suit cafés, restaurants, offices, guesthouses and water shops. Industrial sizes (4,000 to 8,000 GPD) are for processing, bottling and large sites. If you're unsure, do the water check: it suggests a size and we confirm within 24 hours.

Question 3

What does GPD mean in litres?

Accepted Answer

GPD is US gallons per day, the industry rating for RO output. One gallon is about 3.785 litres, so 1,200 GPD is roughly 4,500 litres a day. Real output is lower and depends on water pressure and temperature; our 75 GPD system makes about 240 litres a day, and for the industrial plants we quote the supplier's hourly output instead. The rating assumes the system runs all day under test conditions; real output is lower and depends on your water, pressure and temperature, which is why the water check sizes with a safety margin.

Question 4

Can I see a system before I buy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Visit our display at Mineral Fresh, Cape Garden Centre, Joostenberg Vlakte. One of our 75 GPD systems is set up there. Brand and finish may vary.

Question 5

What does delivery cost?

Accepted Answer

Domestic & commercial systems up to 1,200 GPD: free delivery throughout the Northern Suburbs. For other areas, a reasonable delivery fee applies based on distance. Larger commercial & industrial systems (2,000 GPD and up): delivery across the Western Cape, with fees tailored to your location. Longer distances are quoted individually. Delivery costs are based on your location and confirmed with you beforehand. One fee per order. Pick your area on any product page to see your fee.

Question 6

Do you deliver outside the Western Cape?

Accepted Answer

Not at the moment. We deliver ourselves to the areas in our delivery list, all in the Western Cape. If your area isn't listed, request a quote and we'll see what we can arrange.

Question 7

How do I pay?

Accepted Answer

Full payment on delivery by card machine or cash, or by EFT before dispatch. There's no deposit and no online card payment. You place the order on the site, we call you within 24 hours to confirm delivery, and you pay when the system arrives, or by EFT with your order number as reference. EFT orders are dispatched once the funds have cleared.

Question 8

Can I pay by EFT before delivery?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Choose EFT at checkout and use your order number as the payment reference. Our bank details are on your order confirmation page and in the confirmation email. EFT orders are dispatched once the funds have cleared in our account, not on a proof of payment.

Question 9

How soon will it arrive?

Accepted Answer

We call within 24 hours of your order to agree a delivery date. Timing depends on stock and your area; we tell you on that call rather than promise a date on the site.

Question 10

Do you install?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Professional installation available in Cape Town and up to 50 km — quoted separately for your site. Installation outside our area on request. Installation is not included in the system price: tick "I'd like a quote for installation" when you order or request a quote and we'll price it for your site. You can also install it yourself or use your own plumber.

Question 11

Can I install the 75 GPD system myself?

Accepted Answer

Many customers do. It connects to a cold-water line and a drain under the sink, with the tap mounted on the counter. The included instructions cover the steps; if you'd rather not, tick "I'd like a quote for installation" and we'll quote installation for your site.

Question 12

What does an industrial system need on site?

Accepted Answer

A water supply with adequate pressure and flow, a drain for the concentrate, power for the pump and a level space for the skid. Pretreatment is often needed depending on the feed water. We confirm the requirements for your site before you order.

Question 13

What maintenance is involved?

Accepted Answer

Pre-filters are replaced on a schedule and the membrane less often. The right interval depends on your water quality and how much you use. Keeping to the schedule protects the membrane and keeps output steady. Replacement intervals for your specific system are in its documentation.

Question 14

Where do I get replacement filters?

Accepted Answer

Call or WhatsApp us on +27 83 255 5812 with your system size and we'll quote replacement filters and membranes. Follow the manufacturer's schedule in your documentation for when to change them.

Question 15

Does RO water remove the minerals?

Accepted Answer

RO reduces minerals along with the dissolved salts. Most of the minerals we need come from food rather than water. If you prefer, our optional mineral filter for the 75 GPD adds potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium back after the RO stage and raises the pH.

Question 16

I'm on borehole water. Will RO work?

Accepted Answer

Often, but borehole water varies a lot. Have it tested first. Hardness, iron, manganese and high salt levels usually need pretreatment before the membrane so the system performs and the membrane lasts. We'll tell you if your results point to pretreatment.

Question 17

What is TDS and should I measure it?

Accepted Answer

TDS (total dissolved solids) is a quick meter reading of dissolved minerals and salts. It's a useful indication before and after an RO system, but it isn't a full water analysis and doesn't tell you what specific substances are present. For borehole water we recommend a laboratory test.

Question 18

Is RO water completely pure?

Accepted Answer

No system makes water completely pure, and we don't make health claims. RO significantly reduces dissolved salts and many dissolved contaminants; it is not a guaranteed barrier for every substance, and performance depends on feed water, pressure, temperature and maintenance. For problem water, test first and treat accordingly.
